Why a locksmith can't just pick up
Your hands are in a lock cylinder, a pin kit is open on the step, and the customer is watching. Answering means stopping the job, which is rude to the person paying you and risky for a half-assembled lock. Meanwhile the next caller is standing outside a locked car.
Many locksmiths work alone from a van. There is no one at an office to catch the call, and the one dispatcher is the owner.
Lockouts are different from everything else
Most calls to a locksmith are urgent in feeling, if not in fact. A person locked out of a car at night, a parent locked out with a child inside, a business owner who cannot open at 8 am: they call one number after another, and the first live voice usually wins.
Other work is calmer: rekeying after a move, replacing a lock after a breakup, changing locks on a rental unit, a master key system for a small office. These callers will wait for a callback or a booking, and they often ask for a written time.
How Nora handles the call
Calls you don't pick up go to Nora, the phone assistant we set up in your company's name. She speaks English or Spanish and works from the facts you approve: your service area, your hours, and which jobs you do.
- She asks what happened. Car, home, or business; where the person is standing; whether anyone is at risk inside.
- Lockouts are flagged. You decide what counts as urgent. Nora marks a lockout and pings you right away with the caller, the location, and the situation, so you can call back first.
- She doesn't promise arrival. Nora never gives a time that you will show up. She tells the caller you will call back directly.
- Rekeys and commercial jobs get booked. For calmer work she offers the days you have open or takes a callback request with the address and number of doors.
Rules that stay with you
Nora doesn't quote prices, authorize a job, or decide whether a caller can prove they live at a property. Those calls are yours. You can read each summary in the Centera app, and you can change what counts as urgent whenever you like.
Where to start this week
Check your call log for the past month and mark calls that arrived while you were on a job. Next, search for your trade on a map from a phone and see which locksmiths show up, and whether your listing lists your service area. A caller deciding in thirty seconds will not scroll far.
The free report compares your listing with nearby shops, and a 15-minute review walks through how lockout calls would be flagged for you.
Questions owners ask
Will Nora tell a caller how soon I can arrive?
No. She never promises an arrival time. She says you will call the caller back, and she pings you at once on urgent calls.
Can Nora tell if a call is a lockout?
She asks the questions you approve and flags the call according to your rules. You can adjust those rules at any time.
What about calls outside my area?
You set your service area. Outside it, Nora says so politely and still saves the details if you want to decide yourself.
