The calls you miss, answered in your shop's name.

A ringing phone in an empty truck, a chair with a customer in it, a counter with two people in line: that is how most calls get missed. Here is how to catch them yourself, and what we set up so you do not have to.

Why the phone goes unanswered

A barber has clippers in one hand. A mechanic is under a lift. A pest technician is mid-treatment in somebody's kitchen. None of them can stop and say hello to a stranger. The phone rings, the caller waits a few rings, and the next number on the map search gets the job.

Voicemail rarely rescues it. Most callers with a real problem hang up and dial the next shop, and the ones who leave a message are often called back after the competitor has already booked them.

What you can do alone, today

You can improve this without paying anyone. Start with facts, then add the tools your phone already has.

  1. Count the misses. Ask your carrier for last month's call log and mark the calls that never connected. Look at lunch, after five, and Saturdays.
  2. Record a real greeting. Say your shop's name, your hours, and one instruction: leave your name, number and what you need. Under fifteen seconds.
  3. Turn on forwarding. Send unanswered calls to a second person's phone, even your spouse or a friend, with a short list of what to say and what to write down.
  4. Write your answers down. One page: service area, hours, what you do not do, how to book. Anyone covering the phone reads from it.
  5. Call back inside the hour. A fast, friendly callback wins more work than a perfect voicemail.

What Centera sets up

Calls you do not pick up go to Nora, the phone assistant built for your shop. She answers in your shop's name, in English or Spanish, using facts you approve: your services, your hours, your area and what you do not take.

She takes the caller's name, number and what they need. If you take online booking, she offers the open times on your calendar and books one. Otherwise she takes a clean message. Either way a ping goes to your phone and a summary lands on the customer's card.

How it works day to day

You keep your number. We set up the forwarding for calls you do not answer, so your regular line still rings you first.

Urgent calls are flagged. You tell us what counts: a water leak, a locked-out customer, a car that will not start. Nora marks those and pings you at once so you call back first. She does not transfer a live call to you; she flags it and pings you.

Nora does not quote prices or promise arrival times you have not approved. You can read each summary in the Centera app and change what she says whenever you want.

Mistakes that cost calls and what Nora does not do

Three habits cause most of the trouble. The first is a voicemail box that is full, so callers hear nothing and hang up. The second is a greeting that rambles through the history of the business before saying what to do. The third is forwarding to a phone that is switched off at night.

Check all three this week. Call your own number when the phone is busy, when it is off, and when nobody answers, and listen to each result like a stranger would.

She does not give quotes, diagnose a problem, or promise a time you have not approved. She does not take payments over the phone, and she does not pretend to be a person. Her job is narrow on purpose: pick up, collect the facts, book or take a message, and tell you fast. That keeps the wrong answer from ever being said in your shop's name.

Where to start

Call your own number from another phone at six in the evening and listen to what a customer hears. Then see how your shop looks to a customer in the free report, or read about the missed-call text-back option once texting is registered.

Questions owners ask

Will callers know it is not a person?

If a caller asks, Nora says she is an AI assistant for your company. She answers in your shop's name and sticks to the facts you approved.

Can she book appointments?

Yes, if you take online booking. She offers only the times you have opened on your calendar. If you prefer to confirm each job yourself, she takes a message.

Do I have to change my number?

No. You keep your number and send unanswered calls to the line we set up.

What about emergencies?

You decide what counts as urgent. Nora flags those calls and pings you immediately with the caller and the problem.
