Salons · Missed calls

The salon calls you can't take mid-cut, answered and booked.

A stylist with foils in one hand and a client in the chair cannot also answer the phone. Here is what happens to those calls, and how a salon or barbershop picks them up without hiring a front desk.

Why the salon phone goes unanswered

A salon runs on chair time. When you are halfway through a color service, the next hour is spoken for and the person on the phone is a stranger. Stopping to answer means a client sits under a cape with wet hair, and most stylists would rather finish the job in front of them.

The phone rings hardest when you are least able to reach it. Saturday morning is the obvious one, with every chair full and the walk-ins stacking up by the door. Monday is another: people decide over the weekend that they want a cut or a color before a wedding, and call first thing. Barbers see it differently, with a line on the bench and a ringing phone on the counter behind them.

What an unanswered call costs a chair

A caller asking about a balayage is asking for a long, high-value appointment, often with a toner and a cut attached. A caller asking whether you take walk-ins on a Friday is deciding where to spend the afternoon. If nobody answers, they try the next salon that came up in the map search.

Voicemail rarely rescues these. Someone looking for an appointment this week does not wait for a callback tomorrow; they keep searching. The few who do leave a message are often reached after the slot is gone, which is how a salon ends up with an empty chair at two in the afternoon and a full voicemail box at six.

How the calls get answered

With Centera, the calls you don't pick up go to Nora, the phone assistant we set up for your salon. She answers in your shop's name, in English or Spanish, working only from the facts you approve: your services, your stylists' days, your hours, your walk-in policy.

  1. She takes the details. Name, callback number, which service they want, and whether they have a preferred stylist or are new to the salon.
  2. She books or takes a message. If you take online booking, she offers the open times on your calendar. If you want to confirm color appointments yourself, she leaves a clean message for you.
  3. You see it right away. A ping on your phone and a summary on the client's card, so the callback starts with what they want, not with a guess.
  4. Urgent calls are flagged. A bride's trial that has to move, or a client running late, gets marked and pinged so you can see it between services.

What stays with you

You decide which services Nora can book, how much time each one needs, and which stylists are open on which days. She does not quote prices, promise a particular stylist, or agree to anything you have not approved. Color corrections, consultations and anything unusual can go to you as a message instead of a booking. You can read each summary in the Centera app and change the rules whenever you like.

A test you can run this week

Before changing anything, look at your phone log for the last two Saturdays and count the calls that rang out. Then call the salon yourself at lunchtime on a busy day and listen to what a stranger hears. Most owners know within one call whether the phone is costing them chair time.

If the number is higher than you expected, the free report shows how your salon looks online beside the others in your area, and the 15-minute review walks through what answering those calls would look like for your team.

Questions owners ask

Will clients know it is not a person?

If a caller asks, Nora says she is an AI assistant for your salon. She answers in your salon's name and sticks to the facts you approve.

Can she book straight onto my stylists' calendars?

Yes, if you take online booking. She offers only the times and services you have opened, and the booking lands on the calendar.

What about color consultations?

You choose. She can book a consultation slot, or take the details and leave the decision to you.

Do I have to change my number?

No. You keep your number and forward the calls you don't answer to the line we set up for your salon.
